Bernanke faces first great test

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is facing his first great test as a policymaker in deciding whether to cut rates on Tuesday and if so, by how much. A quarter-point cut in the Federal Funds rate and a half-point cut in the discount rate are widely expected, but no one knows for certain how policymakers will respond to signs of slowing growth amid signs of inflation may be heating up.
